Rumours that some of the Dales biggest stars are facing the chop are “inaccurate”, according to a show insider.

Recently the Mirror reported the soaps new producer, Anita Turner, was looking to boost viewing figures by clearing out some of the cast, telling them they were all “under review”.

However, Emmerdale insists the rumours have no truth.

A spokesperson tells ITV.com: “This speculation is inaccurate. The cast are not under review – we are simply undergoing the annual process of confirming contracts for next year, as actors are never contracted beyond 12 months.”

But viewers have been warned not to get too cosy in the sofa and slippers slot just yet, as plans are underway to introduce some “fresh, new characters” very soon.

The spokesperson adds: “Its an exciting time for Emmerdale.”

Recent Dales departures have included Gray Sinclair, played by Christopher Villiers, and Johnny Foster, played by Richard Grieve.
