Designers have wizard ideas for shoes
Looks like slippers could be making something of a comeback this season – but sadly not the comfortable padded pairs were accustomed to wearing around the house.
Instead, 20 top designers from around the globe will be racking their brains to reinvent the iconic ruby pair sported by Judy Garland in classic movie The Wizard of Oz.
Pop star/designer Gwen Stefani is among the impressive line-up handpicked by Warner and Swarovski to honour the 70th anniversary of the family film with her own interpretation of Dorothys footwear.
Other fashion icons taking part in the exciting project include Alberta Ferretti, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino and Oscar de la Renta.
The final products will be unveiled at a special event in New Yorks famous department store Saks Fifth Avenue in September.
Dorothys original ruby slippers – as worn in the 1939 movie – were designed by Gilbert Adrian. It is speculated that at least seven pairs were made for it, although only four have been accounted for.
