Soap star Julia Haworth has revealed she is "delighted" to be a new mum.

The Coronation Street actress, who plays Claire Peacock, gave birth to a baby girl on Friday morning.

She and her husband Jon Wormald have named the 8lb 11oz arrival Sophia Elizabeth.

On behalf of the couple, a spokesman told reporters: "Words cannot describe how proud we are of our beautiful daughter. She is everything we hoped for and so much more."

Haworth is not the only Corrie regular to be stocking up on nappies and baby shoes this year.

Earlier this month Jack P Shepherd (aka bad boy David Platt) told the Daily Star he was "chuffed" to find out his girlfriend Lauren Shippey is pregnant with their first child.

Corrie co-stars Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) and Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) are also expecting their first babies this year.
