Wang fans celebrate shoe deal
American designer Vera Wang has thrilled her legions of celebrity fans by branching out into footwear.
The deal with Brown Shoe will see the fashion maestros Lavender Label expand to include flats, espadrilles, sandals, clogs, pumps and boots, reports trade journal Womens Wear Daily.
Tipped to launch in 2009, the venture is expected to be hugely profitable, with some industry estimates predicting it will garner £18 million to £20 million at wholesale in the next three years.
But Susan Sokol, president of Vera Wang Apparel, insists the new creations wont blow the budget.
She tells the news source: "Customers are out there shopping, but are intelligent and looking at great design and price points very carefully, so design has to be there and the price-value relationship has to be there, too. Its a combination."
Vera Wang is best known for her gorgeous wedding gowns, as worn by a bevy of stars on their big day including Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Avril Lavigne, Uma Thurman and Jennifer Garner.
