Usain Bolt of Jamaica ran his way to victory with an untied shoelace at the Beijing Olympics yesterday.

Not only did Bolt bag the gold medal in the mens 100-metre race, but he also broke his own world record at the same time.

However, his 9.69 seconds would have been quicker had his shoelace been fastened and if he hadnt stopped to play up to the cameras, commentators suggested.

Bolt, who claimed to have slept and ate chicken nuggets before going to the race, took it all in his stride.

He explained: “I didnt come here to run the world record, because I was the world record holder. I came here to win.”

It seems shoes have been a hot topic for athletes this week, with Brit gold medalist Rebecca Adlington confessing her mother had promised her a pair of Louboutins if she won the 400-metre swimming race.
