As the race to get to Americas White House reaches boiling point, candidates Barack Obama and John McCains footwear has come under scrutiny by a shoe specialist.

Michael Macko, fashion director of Details magazine said that Obama dabbles with a variety of laid-back footwear, including laced shoes, flip- flops and trainers, journalnow.com reported.

John McCain, however, is often snapped in a $520 (£284) pair of designer loafers – something the shoe expert admires.

“Following the footsteps of most men who dont want to have to think too much about their wardrobes, if you find something that works, stick with it,” Mr Macko said.

The wives of the candidates also received some attention from the advisor. Cindy McCains skin-toned ballet slippers matched her husbands loafers for practicality, while Michelle Obama was praised for her sense of occasion.

Mrs Obama was recently given the fashion thumbs up after stepping out in a blue dress by Chicago designer Maria Pinto.
