Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington has been presented with a pair of gold Jimmy Choos from the mayor of her home town.

The heel-mad swimmer, who recently won two gold medals for Britain at the Beijing Olympics, was promised a pair of Jimmy Choos by Tony Egginton, mayor of Mansfield.

Upon her return, Mr Egginton made good on his promise, presenting the swimmer with a gold pair of £460 peep-toe heels balanced on an embroidered cushion.

Adlington, who is just 19 years old, claims to have over 30 pairs of shoes.

Her mother told Hello! Magazine recently: “The two things Rebecca loves most in life are shoes and swimming. If they made designer flippers shed be in heaven.”

The swimmer also broke the world record in the womens 800-metre freestyle race, beating it by more than two seconds.
