Australian women race to break world stiletto running record
An impressive 265 women hit the start line in their finest shoes in Sydney this week to compete in a stiletto race.
In order to enter into the race, candidates must be wearing three-inch heels and complete an 80-metre lap around Sydneys Circular Quay.
The happy winner was professional hurdler Brittney McGlone, who scooped the £2,500 prize as well as a pair of stilettos in the fitting colour of gold.
Other unfortunate competitors came out of the dash worse for wear, with some receiving medical attention for bruises.
However, some good news was delivered after the event when a Guinness World Records spokesman announced that the previous stiletto sprint world record had been broken.
It seems gold shoes are the preserve of winners of late, with Brit gold medalist Rebecca Adlington last week being presented with a pair of shiny Jimmy Choos by the mayor of her home town.
