Actress Tilda Swinton has swapped the towering heels she donned last week at Venice Film Festival for a pair of flat sandals.

It seems the glamour of heels has caught up the star as her foot was left red and swollen, the Daily Mail reported.

Snapped on her way to make an appearance on The Late Show in New York, her foot seemed to be sporting a painful-looking bunion.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe star has been strutting up and down the red carpet in Venice this week in warm-coloured dresses and high heels.

Swinton, who has two children, was promoting her new film, the Coen brothers Burn After Reading, in which she features alongside Hollywood heartthrobs Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

Earlier this year, the actress confessed she and her playwright husband John Byrne enjoy an open relationship and regularly attends public events with her second beau Sandro Kopp, a German artist.
