Demand for cosmetic foot operations on the increase
It seems women across the pond are going to serious lengths to fit into their favourite heels.
In America, foot surgeons have reported a rise in enquiries about cosmetic foot operations, metronews.ca reported.
Some unusual requests the doctors have seen include toe shortening and amputation, foot narrowing and silicone injections into heels to make them more padded and prepared for higher shoes.
Representing the American Foot and Ankle Society, Doctor Donald Bohay said he refuses to perform foot operations unless it is for a valid medical reason.
“It doesnt make sense to put yourself at risk for something that is cosmetic”, said Mr Bohay.
However, he said that there are probably doctors who would perform these procedures for women and added “it wouldnt be right, but they could find somebody”.
In June, American footwear fans flocked to Manolo Blahniks New York store when the sapphire blue heels featured in the Cinderella-style plot of the Sex and the City film went on sale with a price tag of $945 (£526).
