Ms Bata and her husband, who recently passed away aged 93, established the museum in 1979 to house their impressive collection.
Chinese shoes especially for bound feet, ancient Egyptian sandals, glamorous platforms and clogs all feature in the displays.
Those who cannot make it as far as Toronto to visit the museum may be enticed by Somersets own shoe museum, which is free to enter and features footwear from Roman times to the present.
