Japan developing electricity generating shoes
A company in Japan has announced that it has found an alternative to the energy crisis – in a pair of power-generating walking shoes.
NTT, a telecoms form, has said it is developing shoes that create electricity, so consumers will no longer feel the frustration of a flat MP3 player while on the move.
According to the firm, the shoes work by each step causing water in the sole to spin a small turbine which is then converted into power.
Spokesperson for NTT Hideomi Tenma claimed that the shoes can generate 1.2 watts of electricity, “a level sufficient to run an iPod mobile music player forever”.
Provided the wearer keeps on moving, that is.
Mr Tenma said the team is trying to up the voltage to three watts, which would be enough to charge a mobile phone.
NNT, or Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp, is the largest telecommunications firm in Asia and is ranked 40th in Fortunes Global 500 list.
