The heel queen who kicked off the trend among celebrities for the towering footwear this year has taken a break from tottering.

Gwyneth Paltrow decided to back peddle on the trend by wearing a pair of flat sandals to the London Film Festival last night, the Daily Mail reported.

However, it wasnt as much out of choice as due to a sore foot, she admitted.

The actress and mother-of-two said: “I hurt my knee just being silly so Im in flat shoes tonight.”

Replacing her usual vertiginous footwear choices, Paltrow wore a pair of black studded gladiator-type flat sandals.

Going for the fashionable gothic look, she matched these with a loose flowing black gown as she sauntered down the red carpet.

Also present at the event was American actress Anne Hathaway, who stunned the crowds in a blue floor-length dress and by braving the rain to sign autographs for her fans.
