In a bid to raise awareness about the dangers of ill-fitting domestic footwear, a charity has offered to replace elderly peoples slippers with new ones.

Age Concern in Doncaster has launched a new scheme which allows people in the area to swap old, worn-out slippers for new ones, reported doncasterfreepress.co.uk.

The offer is open to those in the area aged 60 or over and will be held at the Mexborough Health Centre between one and three oclock on Wednesday November 5th and in St Nicolas Church Hall in Thorne on Wednesday November 12th.

In attendance at both events will be health professionals from Doncaster Primary Healthcare Trust who will be dishing out advice on how falls and accidents around the home can be averted.

The JW Chapman Earlsmere Trust is funding the event as part of its scheme to help reduce the number of injuries among the elderly.

A similar initiative was carried out in both Salisbury and Amesbury in early October and saw locals step up to swap ill-fitting slippers for new, safer pairs.
