Health officials advise on correct slippers
Health representatives from Wales have warned families to consider the type of footwear they give to their elderly relatives thoroughly.
As part of a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers ill-fitting footwear can bring to the vulnerable, Flintshire local health board has issued some advice, reported dailypost.co.uk.
Celia Drew, a nurse on Flintshires chronic disease management team, commented that “soft fluffy slippers”, or poor-fitting ones, can cause debilitating trips and falls.
“With Christmas just around the corner, we want to urge people to think carefully about any footwear they might be thinking of buying as presents for older relatives,” she stated.
Similar advice has been issued by the charity Age Concern, which last month offered to replace worn out old slippers with new, safer pairs as part of a scheme in Doncaster.
