Men go for the soft step as slippers take to the streets
The popularity of high-quality mens slippers is surging as more men take to wearing the comfy shoes outdoors, it has been claimed.
Several footwear industry experts have noted the trend among younger men in recent times, reported the Financial Times.
"Some young people are starting to wear slippers outside," said Richard Edgecliffe-Johnson, chairman of London-based shoemakers WS Foster observed.
According to Hilary Freeman, managing director of Edward Green & Co of Northampton, the trend looks to be going global.
"Weve noticed a growing interest in our mens slippers, especially from America. This is slowly moving west to Europe, then Russia and onwards," she stated.
However, some slipper-lovers are putting a contemporary twist on the fad by hunting down footwear with added motifs.
"This year, by popular demand, we extended our slipper range to include new designs such as a skull and crossbones and a seahorse," revealed George Glasgow, chairman of Bond Streets JG Cleverly.
In related news, it seems that Brits cannot resist a comfy slipper, as a poll conducted last week by TripAdvisor found that 25 per cent of people in the UK take theirs on holiday with them.
