Flip-flopping women to be given soft shoes after hard night
Women who have enjoyed one glass of wine too many on the town and are struggling to walk home in their glamorous high heels will be offered flip-flops, it has emerged.
In a bid to make their journey home all the more safer and comfortable, police will be handing out the footwear in Torbay, Devon – a location popular for stag and hen parties.
The plans were announced as local inspector Adrian Leisk said he would be handing out the footwear, which feature printed alcohol-awareness messages.
"The emphasis is on providing replacement footwear for people to get home in, should they find their high heels uncomfortable, inappropriate or soiled," he added.
Safer Communities Torbay secured £30,000 of funding from the Home Office for the project.
Other UK shoes news this week was the introduction of soft high heels for babies being made available to buy in the country for the first time.
