Dance moves really can be electric, says scientists
Those who love to pull on their finest shoes for a dance may be providing more than some hot moves in the future.
Scientists and researchers are attempting to harvest the energy generated by dancers into electric power, it has been revealed.
Technology specialists are currently brainstorming the best ways in which human energy – including a good stint on the dancefloor – can be turned into power, the Guardian reported.
So-called power harvesting has already been tested in London nightclubs and experts say that it could be developed even further in future to power personal items such as iPods and mobile phones.
"The idea is not a new one. Self-winding watches are fitted with devices like these to recharge their batteries so they dont have to be replaced all the time," explained Dr Steve Beeby from Southampton University.
In October, it was announced that Japanese scientists are already developing energy-generating shoes that could see people powering their own personal music systems and mobile phones as they stroll down the street.
