It seems that all of the stops were pulled out by the makers of new film Australia to boost the movies epic status, including the creation of historically accurate footwear.

Salvatore Ferragamo, an Italian leather dealer, took charge of constructing the boots for actress Nicole Kidmans character.

As the companys product director James Ferragamo stated, they had to use laces rather than zips.

"In the 30s, zippers were not employed in shoemaking. In order to achieve a snug fit and respect this technical detail, we had to employ corseting detail on the boots upper," he stated.

Mr Ferragamo added that, coincidently, this fits in with current boot fashions.

Kidmans country singer husband Keith Urban was in the shoe news recently for his penchant for a heeled boot as he attempted to gain a few inches on his famously tall wife.
