The hugely popular sheepskin Ugg boot may be an endangered shoe in the UK soon, as a firm importing the footwear has gone into administration, it has been reported.

Kate Kuba, one of the major importers of the Ugg brand, has ceased to operate, kicking up some worry among fans of the Australian-made boot.

As well as Uggs, the company also sold footwear from Camper and Diesel Style Lab.

The retailer has become the latest victim of the UKs economic downturn, joining the likes of media firm Zavvi, crockery outlet Whittards and British institution Woolworths in its bankruptcy.

Ugg boots are not only popular among Brits fending off the winter weather – a wide range of celebrities, from Kate Moss and Jools Oliver to Bruce Willis and Leonardo DiCaprio have been snapped wearing them.

Meanwhile, women looking to follow spring fashions may find their feet are slightly colder than they may be while wearing their Ugg boots. According to fashion forecasts, shoes designed to look like cages will be at the forefront of style in 2009.
