Shoemaker crafts a pair for Obama
An Italian shoemaker is busy working away making a pair of shoes for one special recipient – the new US president Barack Obama.
According to custom shoe-maker Adriano Stefanelli, who is based in Novara, Italy, Obama has not ordered the footwear personally but will receive them as a welcome gift for his new role.
He is known to be an admirer of Stefanellis style of hand-made Italian leather shoes, which have been worn by the likes of Pope John Paul II, George Bush and the Patriarch of Moscow, reported ANSA.it.
"The American ambassador asked me if I was planning to do something for the new president […] I didnt even reply – I took the necessary information and I set to work immediately," said Mr Stefanelli.
He added that the shoes are "a classic Italian product" and that they should be "perfect for Obama".
It seems this particular gift may be coming at just the right time for the new president. Michelle Obama told CNN earlier this month that her husband is not particularly fashion-conscious and could benefit from some new shoes.
