Buying a pair of ridiculously expensive shoes is not necessarily the key to looking your best, it has been claimed.

Melissa OShea, founder of the Hello Stiletto Shoe Club in the US, has advised women that "so much is on sale nowadays that you can really score incredible deals" when it comes to shoes.

She continued: "Great shoes definitely dont have to be expensive and they dont even have to be designer."

In fact, she revealed that her husband talked her out of buying a pair of 800 Euro (£697) pale pink satin Swarovski crystal-encrusted Christian Louboutins in Paris, as they would have cost half of a mortgage payment.

Rather than being expensive or designer, says Ms OShea, the most important function of a shoe is to "make your foot, leg and entire outfit look beautiful and polished".

One celeb who did jump at the chance to wear some designer heels this week was US actress Jennifer Connelly. She turned up for the premiere of her latest film Hes Just Not That Into You in a pair of dazzling £1,335 Balmain crystal-studded heels.
