Halle Berry shunned the traditional heels and went for beach chic with a pair of flip-flop sandals on the red carpet recently.

Pictures from the Daily Mail show the actress at the Hollywood premiere of The Soloist in a rather more casual look than that usually worn by the worlds leading ladies.

However, the 42-year-old still managed to look elegant as she teamed her black flip-flop sandals with a long striped dress in purple, green and grey tones.

According to the news provider, Halle looked happy and relaxed as she smiled for the cameras with her hair drawn back into a casual yet classy up do.

The star attended the premier to support her friend Jamie Foxx, who stars in the film about a musician who develops schizophrenia.

Halle may not be the only star who favours flip-flops, as supermodel Elle McPherson wore a jewelled pair at the Womens Awards in Vienna last month.
