Converse trainers have become an iconic item of footwear ever since they were first paired with a famous basketball player, according to one website.

Discussing the issue, the Murray State News describes how Converse first crafted its famous sports shoes in 1908.

However, it added the name of Chuck Taylor, a basketball player and innovator of the sport, to the brands logo in 1923.

Since then, the trainers became more than just a shoe, fashion statement or piece of nostalgia and the news provider states that they "transformed the sport of basketball and witnessed the birth of rock and roll".

It claims they were the worlds first performance trainer and "from punk rockers to models, these shoes have represented almost every lifestyle in the country".
