Converse trainers have been described as the most “successful runner in history” by one trainer fan.

Writing about his love of a good shoe for the Irish Independent, Ed Power claims that the brand has managed to carve out a name for itself at the “outsiders footwear of choice”.

He believes that support from icons such as Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has helped to cement Converses place in history and played a big part in the revival of the shoe which took place in the early 90s.

Colin Brady from Trendspot, an Irish fashion blog, said: “Rock-influenced youth culture has kept a long-running affinity with this shoe. From punk to grunge to indie, it has managed to stay favoured by counter-cultures while also becoming part of the mainstream.”

Disney Channel star Selena Gomez admitted to Footwear News on WWD.com that she owns 20 pairs of the popular trainers.
