Dr Martens the only boot to be seen in during the 70s
A pair of battered Dr Martens were the only boots to be seen in during the 70s, according to one website.
When it comes to toughening up an outfit and giving it a punk edge, it seems as though a pair of Dr Martens boots may be the only shoes that matter.
According to fashion and lifestyle website Female First, the music scene in the 1970s first propelled the boots up the fashion stakes.
While biker boots were the footwear of choice for most of the decade, they soon made way for Dr Martens and a pair “in red and battered black were the only boot to be seen in”, the site continues.
These were often worn over tight trousers with eye-catching patterns such as tartan and leopard print.
Nowadays, Dr Martens still retain their slightly punk roots and are often seen on the feet of celebrities, such as model Agyness Deyn, who like to experiment and bring an edgy feel to their outfits.
