Nike and Converse team up with celebrities
Trainer manufacturers and sports brands such as Nike and Converse are quickly realising that associating their products with a celebrity is one of the best ways to attract customers, it has been claimed.
According to CNN.com, those in the hip hop industry can be particularly influential.
Earlier this year, Converse released a line of its famous All-Star baseball shoes with rapper Lupe Fiasco.
Perhaps even more famously, Nike has released two versions of the Air Yeezy trainer which is inspired by Kayne West.
He has also gone up-market and teamed up with luxury brand Louis Vuitton to produce a pair of trainers, the news provider continues.
These can quickly become collectors items which the consumers keep stored away in their boxes to ensure they stay in tip-top condition.
Recently, Crave on CNET News revealed that a pair of collectable Xbox Nike Dunks were sold on eBay for $4,000 (£2,587).
