Pierre Cardin shoes took inspiration from 50s moon landings
Pierre Cardin embraced the 60s space age fashion trend by flattening shoes after the launch of the Russian satellite in 1957, according to the reflections of one website.
Sending fashion into orbit, brands such as Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne and Rudi Gernreich responded to the Sputnik take-off of 1957 by flattening shoes, chopping hemlines and streamlining silhouettes, Womens Wear Daily has reported.
John F Kennedys challenge to “choose to go to moon” may also have inspired what became the hallmarks of the 60s futuristic style, also known as Mod fashion, prompting designers to showcase go-go boots, miniskirts, tunics and helmet-like hats, which received plentiful airtime in the popular TV shows and films of the era.
In related news, the fashion magazine recently reported that the president of Lacoste Footwear had agreed with other brand experts in recommending the classic Americana-style trend as a hot look for style-conscious sportsmen in spring 2010.
