Nike trainers will no longer contribute to global warming
Nike trainers will no longer be made from leather that contributes to global warming caused by Amazon deforestation.
Announcing a new policy in conjunction with environmental organisation Greenpeace, Nike will now require its leather suppliers to confirm that the leather they supply for the brands trainers is not derived from cattle raised in the Amazon biome.
National campaigns director for Greenpeace Lisa Finaldi said the charity applauded the direction the trainers company was now taking on the critical issue of Amazon deforestation.
“Nikes actions demonstrate the measures that other major players in the footwear sector need to take to protect the Amazon,” she said.
Nike has also committed to reviewing contracts with suppliers that been found to use slave labour, as well as with suppliers that have infringed on protected areas such as Indian land.
In related news, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes daughter Suri was recently seen out and about in a pair of bright white pumps made by the increasingly ethical firm.
