A list of tried-and-tested tips has been compiled by the Guardian to take the pain out of packing for holidaymakers jetting abroad this summer.

Travellers should not simply bung everything in their suitcase at once, but instead make a pile of items they wish to take and then remove anything they are not completely determined to carry.

“Then pack in this order: shoes first and wash bags – both packed inside carrier bags, which you can use as laundry bags once youre away,” the newspaper instructed.

Books, chargers, an evening bag containing jewellery and a belt should come next, followed by a swimsuit and underwear in fabric bags.
