Vanessa Hudgens used a pair of Dr Martens boots to help her get into character for her role in the film Bandslam, she has asserted.

In an interview with Sugar magazine, the actress, whose previous roles include Gabriella in the High School Musical film franchise, explained that she based her character Sam on a character from the Addams Family.

She told the publication: "I watched The Addams Family a lot and tapped into Wednesdays deadpan character. Plus, I had to wear Dr Martens boots throughout the entire film. It was fun creating a whole new me."

Vanessa said it was very exciting to play a new character that was nothing like her, as she and Gabriella are both "sweet and nice" and have a great deal in common.

Up and coming roles for Vanessa include Sucker Punch and fantasy horror Beastly, the latter of which has already begun filming and is due to be released next year.
