Anyone intending to wear wide-legged trousers – a big forthcoming trend for autumn – has been urged to team them with high heel shoes.

Daily Mail fashion columnist Tamara Abraham cited Madonna as a case in point for her suggestion, as the Material Girl has been spotted on several occasions wearing these kind of pants, most recently in Paris.

However, she has paired them each time with flat shoes, resulting in an unflattering silhouette that makes her look like a little girl who has raided her mums wardrobe.

Tamara said choosing the right footwear is essential if youre planning on ditching skinny jeans this autumn.

“High heels will make anything you wear look better, but they are especially important with wide-legged trousers as they can have a tendency to make you look wide too,” she explained.

The expert recommended trying your potential new trews on with the heels you intend to wear them with in order to ensure they are just skimming the floor.
