People expecting to do a lot of walking around in the sunshine this summer have been urged to opt for open-toed sandals with their summer dresses.

DressBarn.com issued this advice after finding that many tourists are committing terrible faux pas on holiday, with many putting light sunfrocks together with trainers and clumpy formal shoes.

Americans were found to be the worst travel style sinners, followed by Germans.

“Pair your flowy dress with comfortable, open-toed sandals,” the website urged.

It also insisted that opting for comfortable shoes does not mean having to sacrifice style, as there are many pairs of sandals that look great while looking after the feet too.

“Style and arch support do co-exist,” DressBarn.com commented.
