The importance of keeping a separate pair of womens leather shoes for driving in has been highlighted by an expert.

Although it is dangerous to do so, many women still drive wearing unsuitable footwear, including high heels, according to a report from the German road safety council (DVR).

For the brakes to be applied safely in an emergency situation the whole foot is required to be on the brake pedal, which Earth Times reported the group as stating is impossible in some forms of shoes or barefoot.

“It is better to have a pair of shoes in the car suitable for driving and to put those favourite shoes back on after leaving the car,” stated Dr Michael Schaefer from the German accident prevention organisation.
